PCA9959 LED Driver Evaluation Board

The OMPCA9959LEDEV evaluation board features LEDs for color mixing, blinking and dimming demonstrations. A graphical interface allows the user to easily explore the different functions of the driver. The board can be connected in series with other SPI-bus demoboards to create an evaluation system.

  • PCA9959: 24-Channel SPI Serial Bus 63 mA/5.5 V Constant Current LED Driver

Features

Gradation control

  • Support up to four groups of LED gradation control
  • Each LED channel assigned to one of four groups
  • For each group, PCA9959 supports 64-grid brightness control
  • Each LED output has its own 6-bit resolution (64 steps) preset current configuration, with an absolution accuracy of ± 8%

Power

  • Supply voltage: 2.7 V to 5.5 V
  • Low standby current (170 µA)

LED current

  • 63 mA / 5.5 V output drive per channel
  • Output current accuracy:
    ±5% channel to channel
    ±7% chip to chip
  • Output current adjusts through resistor at REXT pin

Interface

  • 10 MHz SPI interface
  • Output enable (/OE) pin
