NXP S32K microcontrollers, based on the Arm® Cortex®-M series core, offer scalability, high-performance and low-power consumption tailored for applications in body, zone control and electrification. S32K MCUs provide functional safety and embedded security compliant to ASIL B/D levels, adaptable to both AUTOSAR® and non-AUTOSAR applications.
S32K MCUs are supported by a minimum of 15 years of product longevity and a comprehensive, third-party software and tools ecosystem.
As a part of the S32 Automotive Processing Platform, NXP S32K MCUs aim to provide an end-to-end solution, encompassing development, implementation and sustained performance through an Automotive-grade Software Development Kit (SDK).

High performance, low latency real-time compute and control for a range of zonal architectures and electrification X-in-1 integration.
S32K5 is an extension of S32K3 to support higher ECU function integration. It is not a replacement.
S32K5 offers extra performance and larger embedded NVM(MRAM) with additional Arm Cortex-M7 and Cortex-R52 cores to integrate more functions. It also offers the Neutron-AI accelerators to speed up machine learning tasks and integrated Ethernet switches for vehicle data exchange. Importantly, S32K5 and S32K3 are SW compatible, ensuring seamless development and scalability across platforms.
Zonal architectures are evolving with diverse requirements and the S32K5 family is built to meet them with scalable performance, peripherals and network capabilities. As the industry moves toward future zone controllers, ECU consolidation becomes essential to reduce costs and simplify software. The S32K5 family addresses these challenges with leading automotive MCU performance for real time ECU functions, large density eMRAM for growing code sizes, network accelerators for increasing vehicle data, and hardware isolation to ensure freedom from interference, offering a complete solution for current and future zonal architectures.
The S32K5 is a new generation of automotive microcontrollers from NXP that is designed to push the boundaries in applications like automotive E/E architectures, electric vehicle applications like BMS, OBC and Charge Ctrl.
S32K5 is well suited for applications, such as domain and zonal controllers, battery management systems, traction inverters, OBCs and chassis and safety systems.
The new K5 offers a wide range of high-speed communication interfaces including 2.5 Gbps Ethernet, 10BASE-T1S Ethernet, and CAN XL. This enables seamless integration of the zone controller with other sensors, actuators and domains across the vehicle's E/E architecture.
The scalable S32K family concept allows a common software architecture to be used across different performance and feature variants. This enables more cost-effective and flexible zonal E/E designs by allowing a range of processing capabilities within the same software ecosystem, benefiting both Tier 1 suppliers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
