About This Video
NXP’s Brendon Slade interviews San Jose State Lecturer, Preetpal Kang about his student’s ‘self-driving’, autonomous car project. Mr. Kang designed the project to bring together his large class of 75 students into 5 teams, each with the task of building an autonomous car using readily available components.
At the heart of every autonomous car were six controller boards. Each 15-student team programmed their six boards to handle specific functions: GPS, Sensor, Central, Motor, I/O and Communication. The controller boards communicated using the CAN Bus, connected in a STAR topology and featured NXP’s LPC1758 with its 512K ROM, 64K RAM and many on-board peripherals.
