The Internet of Things (IoT) market continues to grow with some forecasts
estimating the number of end points to exceed five billion*. What separates
the IoT market from many others is the range of industries it covers, from
retail to agricultural and healthcare, to banking—all participating and
benefiting from the ability to develop low cost, connected devices that can
analyze data locally or send to the cloud for deeper analytics.
Across the many industries of IoT, very few standards have emerged due to the
wide diversity of needs and wants. However, one architecture, the system on a
module (SOM), a circuit board that integrates a system in a single module, has
become widely adopted. The developer’s use of SOMs reduces cost and
time to market and can be re-used across many different devices, resulting in
its wide adoption and an explosion of end devices.
NXP, seeing the potential of the SOM architecture for our wide range of
MPU’s, realized an opportunity to partner closely with board partners who
specialize in SOM development. Variscite was an early mover in this market and
an obvious choice for collaboration. Variscite has grown to become one of the
leaders in design and innovation using NXP i.MX applications processors and
power management ICs through the
VAR-SOM and DART Pin2Pin product families. These products offer our joint customers significant long-term advantages
such as high scalability, optimized cost/performance, ease of development and
long lifetime availability.
Recognizing we can’t do it alone, NXP offers our customers an
extensive portfolio of partner solutions through our
Partner Program
that was recently updated to a new tiering of Platinum, Gold and Registered.
Variscite has been a member for eight years at the Gold level.
“Through recent updates to the program, we can reward partners who have
helped drive significant joint success in key markets,” said Bruno
Guillotin, NXP Partner Program Manager. “Variscite is a valued partner
with proven market success through the adoption of many of the i.MX 6, 7 and 8
series applications processors into their market-leading SOM’s, which
has ultimately driven our collective success in the Industrial and IoT market.
Based on this exceptional leadership with their SOMs and their expected
continued success, we are pleased to announce the promotion of Variscite to
Platinum membership in the NXP Partner Program; the first promotion to this
level in over five years.”
As the IoT and other adjacent markets continue to evolve, NXP will innovate
with products such as the
i.MX 8M Plus
and further enable machine learning at the edge. Continuing to strengthen our
partnership with market leaders such as Variscite will ensure we bring robust
processors to the next billion end device.
Please join us on Monday June 24th for a joint webinar between Variscite and
NXP on
How to design a scalable embedded product supporting multiple i.MX
applications processors.
*Gartner, Inc. forecasts that the enterprise
and automotive Internet of Things (IoT) market* will grow to
5.8 billion endpoints in 2020, a 21% increase from 2019. … Utilities
will be the highest user of IoT endpoints, totaling 1.17
billion endpoints in 2019 and increasing 17% in 2020 to reach 1.37 billion
endpoints.
