Valentine’s Day is traditionally a day of hearts and roses, but there was no love lost between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals when they faced off against each other in Super Bowl LVI. More than 70,000 fans witnessed the game in the USD $6 billion SoFi stadium, which provided them with a new experience in hyper-connectivity with some help from NXP smart tech. As a leading player in connectivity, our solutions were everywhere.
As the last whistle was blown, the Los Angeles Rams won the day against the Cincinnati Bengals by 23-20, but the true winners were the fans at the stadium, who revelled in the glory of a true connection with their teams, and their tech, from before the start of the game to after the finish. They were treated to high-resolution images on the 70,000 sq ft, 360-degree dual-sided ‘Infinity Screen’ from Samsung, as well as full 5G augmented reality in ‘Dreamground’ on their Galaxy phones.
While the Rams and the Bengals fought for victory, around the stadium, thousands of fans recorded their favorite moments posting selfies and socials to friends and followers. At the same time, others used their smartphones at concession stands for hotdogs, pretzels, pizza and beer. With such a condensed demand for data from every type of device and every carrier network in the U.S., seamless connectivity was essential. This was all made possible thanks to the help of NXP’s Wi-Fi 6 solutions, with more than 2,500 wireless access points, one of the largest ever at a sports venue, also with a 5G distributed antenna system (DAS) that covers licensed spectrum bands between 600 MHz and 6 GHz.

NXP’s RF high-power amplifiers enabled the 3,200 DAS remote units and base stations to transmit signals throughout and beyond the stadium, ensuring the seamless enjoyment of the game for those inside. Additionally, for a seamless fan experience in smart stadiums, our Wi-Fi 6, 5G, UWB, NFC and MIFARE technologies help make sure that every second, every pass and play is captured, shared and made unmissable, thanks to the accuracy, innovation and quality of the hi-tech teams at NXP.
