NXP Semiconductors and smartmicro continue their partnership on scalable corner and front radar
solutions.
The automotive market has seen remarkable growth in demand for
radar technology solutions. This growth is driven by an increase in autonomous driving features as well as the
proliferation of improved safety features in vehicles motivated by the roadmaps of organizations
such as NCAP. As the industry standardizes on the 76-81GHz band, sensor technology is maturing and
performance is increasing. Radar is now more affordable and versatile, making it suitable for
existing and emerging applications, not exclusively in automotive. These include automotive, such
as industrial robots, last mile delivery systems and traffic management (ITS) solutions.
Why smartmicro
For almost 25 years, smartmicro has been developing radar solutions and has built its expertise in
the design of sensors. Its core competency is in automotive radar, covering key aspects necessary
for successful development.
From digital and RF design, through software development and end-of line testing, smartmicro has
everything it takes to develop high performance automotive radar sensors. Having already
successfully engaged with several mid-to large sized Tier 1s, more than 10 million cars today
carry radar sensors designed by smartmicro.
As well as supporting Tier 1s in their radar development, smartmicro produces its own automotive
high performance off-the-shelf sensors. These sensors can be easily integrated for several
applications, enabling a variety of interesting use cases. Additionally, smartmicro has already
developed platforms which can be used as a starting point for developing customized solutions in
close collaboration.
NXP Value
Now, smartmicro is continuing its partnership with NXP to ensure early availability of their next
sensor generation. As a system integrator, smartmicro is partnering with NXP, a leader in radar
and provider of complete radar solutions including MCU, TRX, power management, in-vehicle
networking and Radar SDK software enablement who has announced their 5th generation Radar chipset
and keeps continuously innovating in Radar sensor technology.
A key benefit of NXP’s newest generation Radar chipset is its scalability, allowing smartmicro to
rapidly develop new sensors addressing the dynamically evolving needs of 77GHz Radar sensor
applications while maximizing reuse across different sensors in their portfolio.
In partnering with smartmicro, NXP is not only giving mid- to large scale radar developers the
opportunity to accelerate their radar development through cooperation with smartmicro, as well as
providing adjacent markets greater access to easy-to-use
NXP-based radar sensors
through smartmicro’s automotive high performance off-the-shelf sensors.
NXP’s RFP product line is very happy to welcome smartmicro to NXP’s partner network as a Gold
partner.
