As a global company and significant player in the semiconductor industry, NXP
has a responsibility to our stakeholders and society to manage the company in
a way that's sustainable over the long term. This includes our commitment to
taking a number of environmental, social and governance (ESG) actions to
advance not only our company but a more sustainable world.
We just published our 2021 annual
Corporate Sustainability Report, which details our accomplishments of last year and also announces our
mid- and long-term goals that we identified as impactful in the next phase of
our sustainability journey.

Climate and Environment
We continued to progress on our greenhouse gas emissions with an 11% reduction
in our normalized Scope 1 and 2 emissions compared to 2020. We also realized an
11% decrease in normalized water consumption from 2020 and we recycled more
than three-quarters of our manufacturing and one-time use waste.
Looking ahead, one of our long-term goals is achieving carbon neutrality in
our operations by 2035. For transparency and alignment with climate science,
we have committed to aligning our targets with the
Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Our 2027 mid-term targets focus on reducing 35% of our carbon
emissions from a 2021 baseline, recycling 60% of our water and achieving a 90%
waste recycling rate.

Diversity, Equality and Inclusion
Despite the challenging talent environment, we hired nearly 8,000 new team
members in 2021, including approximately 3,300 women. Women now represent 37%
of NXP’s global workforce. In addition, NXP grew the number of women in R&D
and increased the overall representation of the company’s U.S. Black/African
American and Hispanic/Latino populations.
Our journey continues as our aspirational goals for 2025 include achieving 25%
representation of women in R&D and 50% underrepresented minorities in our U.S.
workforce.
Compensation Linked to ESG
To drive progress along with team member engagement and ownership, we have
incorporated sustainability goals into our 2022 annual incentive plan for
employees. The new sustainability component will consist of environment and
people metrics related to increasing renewable energy, reducing carbon
emissions, increasing water recycling, ensuring employee safety, increasing
female representation and advancing desired culture.

Health and Safety
In the face of lingering challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, we
maintained stringent protocols to protect our team members while maintaining
our lowest-ever injury rate for the second year in a row (0.08 work-related
injuries per 100 full-time employees during a one-year period, known as
“TCIR”), which was well below the semiconductor industry average. Our ongoing
ambition is to achieve zero workplace injuries.
