NXP is expanding its
OrangeBox connectivity domain controller development platform
ecosystem for automotive applications to include new cybersecurity and software solutions from nine strategic partners. This
growing third-party support for the OrangeBox development ecosystem accelerates the transformation to software-defined vehicles
and helps unify automotive wireless connectivity through a domain-based architecture that complements emerging zonal
architectures.
As the OrangeBox ecosystem continues to grow and evolve, the platform helps developers consolidate essential wireless
technologies into a unified automotive platform that reduces hardware and software cost and complexity while enhancing safe,
secure connectivity.
Securing the Connected Car
NXP has partnered with
Bitfdefender and
Rinf.tech for exceptional cybersecurity and firewall
solutions designed to secure smart connected cars and help prevent entry of malware to automotive subsystems. The solution helps
protect software-defined vehicles from ransomware, malicious attacks, data breaches related to sensitive information, such as
payments, tracking and navigation, and helps reduce driver safety incidents.
VicOne’s xCarbon and xNexus solutions provide an
on-board Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (IDPS), with real-time Ethernet Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and CAN bus
monitoring, combined with machine learning (ML)-driven cloud analytics.

Streamlining Over-the-Air Software Updates
To differentiate in the highly competitive automotive market, OEMs are continually developing their software defined vehicle
platforms, with enhanced safety and infotainment features. Mender's end-to-end OTA update solution enables automakers to focus
on innovation and not waste time building and supporting a homegrown OTA infrastructure. Mender's open-source model gives
automakers confidence that they are in control and not locked into a proprietary vendor solution. OrangeBox developers can now
leverage Mender’s end-to-end open-source
OTA update solution.
Open-Source Middleware for Telematics
NXP is working with
Luxoft, a full-service technology
partner that provides strategic advice as well as solution design and delivery, to develop open-source middleware solutions for
telematics applications on OrangeBox, accelerating software-defined vehicle development. This telematics middleware abstracts
the hardware and provides a standard API to applications. The goal is to provide the baseline telematics software functionality
and to simplify the application development experience.

Superb Cloud Connectivity
OEMs are undergoing a digital transformation built on vehicle data and software-defined vehicle features. They rely on resilient
cloud services for millions of vehicles around the globe as a foundation for this transformation. NXP offers pre-integrated
support for
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
IoT services such as IoT Core,
IoT Greengrass, and
IoT FleetWise with OrangeBox to help OEMs
implement cloud connectivity and deploy cloud native applications. NXP is simplifying the path to enabling the development,
deployment and management of connected and software defined vehicles.
Enhancing Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) Connectivity
NXP is collaborating with
Cohda Wireless, an established leading supplier
of innovative connected vehicle solutions, to integrate their industry standard
V2X-Stack with the OrangeBox
BSP releases to enable automotive V2X application development.
Expanded Manufacturing Options for Telematics
In addition to expanding the OrangeBox software ecosystem, NXP is working with engineering service providers including
iWave Systems and
L4B AUTOMOTIVE to help accelerate overall time-to-market system development.
OrangeBox provides a comprehensive development platform for prototyping and use case development enabled by NXP silicon and
pre-integrated and third-party software. The platform’s extensive secure wireless connectivity capabilities enable developers to
create automotive solutions that meet connectivity domain or zonal controller requirements. With OrangeBox, external wireless
connectivity is managed through a single subsystem, enabling state-of-art security protection to be applied to all wireless
traffic entering the car and simplifying cloud orchestration and OTA software updates.
OrangeBox incorporates the scalable i.MX 8XLite applications processor, an S32K safety co-processor, and the wireless
connectivity capabilities required to implement secure car access to the outside world in a safe, secure manner through V2X,
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, UWB, 4G LTE and 5G cellular, GPS/GNSS positioning and software-defined radios. As a leading provider of
silicon, software, security technology and development platforms for the automotive market, NXP provides many of these wireless
technologies and collaborates with third-party partners for additional software support.
The platform helps speed time to market and supports future-proof design through next-generation NXP processors. It also uses
standard interfaces to address ever-changing standards in wireless and cellular connectivity, global positioning and radio tuner
requirements.
OrangeBox integrates seamlessly with NXP’s popular GoldBox vehicle networking platform, enabling other automotive systems to
easily leverage wireless connectivity. By complementing GoldBox, OrangeBox serves as a first line of defense for all external
wireless connectivity, providing a secure and reliable interface between the car and the outside world.
