Aiming to increase the reach of card and mobile payment, Europay, Mastercard and Visa (EMV) point of sale (POS) terminals are getting more lightweight, replacing hardware security with software and back-end security. Off-the-shelf mobile devices, like your smart phone, can become an acceptance point for payment cards, a so-called SoftPOS.
With the release of PN7220, POS manufacturers can expand their products to the new SoftPOS payment device category.
PN7220 provides high performance to the user, the NCI interface offers seamless integration into Android 13, and the powerful transmitter combined with a sensitive receiver allow to achieve EMVCo 3.1 analog and digital L1 compliancy even under challenging conditions. The design-in of the PN7220 is supported and simplified by the NFC Cockpit.
With the additional NFC Forum-compliant polling loop, PN7220 is also supporting multi-application use cases in a fully integrated way, supporting both EMV payment cards and loyalty or transit cards.
Part numbers include: PN7220EV.
The PN7221 has the same features as the PN7220 with additional Apple Enhanced Contactless Polling (ECP) feature support.
The Embedded ECP features are disabled by default and require a special and confidential SW command available as a secure file from NXP.com for activation. Learn more about secure access rights.
No dedicated development kit is available.
Yes, all of the standard design principals used in the generic PN7220 also apply to the PN7221. The PN7221 includes additional content but is form, fit and functionally identical to the PN7220.
