The MPC8340BPON is a system-on-chip (SoC) solution for broadband passive optical networking (B-PON) that integrates a B-PON MAC, Ethernet MACs and clock and data recovery (CDR) unit onto a PowerPC® processor platform.
The MPC8340BPON provides a highly-integrated solution designed to minimize optical network termination (ONT) costs through silicon integration and a reduction of the number of discrete memories.
The MPC8340BPON is NXP®’s 2nd-generation B-PON ONT standard device. It follows on the heels of the two chipset solution comprising of the MC92701 B-PON layer termination device and the PowerQUICC®™ communications processor.
The MPC8340BPON SoC device is based on Our e300 PowerPC processor platform which provides the foundation for the company's PowerQUICC II™ Pro communications processor family. The MPC8340BPON device's e300 core operates at 266 MHz and includes a 32KB instruction cache and a 32KB data cache. The SoC integrates a DDR SDRAM memory controller, three 10/100 Ethernet controllers,DUART, I2C, SPI, an interrupt controller,GPIO, AAL5 support and UTOPIA interfaces.
The PON subsystem is based on NXP’s MC92701 B-PON layer termination device. The ITU-T G.983 based subsystem supports DBA, a capability designed to enhance quality of service (QoS) in fiber-based broadband services and to enable additional services that require bandwidth peaks beyond traditional fixed-bandwidth allocations. The PON subsystem leverages Our broad expertise in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) cell processing and mixed-signal technology.
