The third industrial revolution saw the largest development of integrated Ethernet networks on the factory floor since the end of the last century. These networks did enabled real-time operations or high bandwidth communications depending on the selected protocols and the type of network addressed (For example: field, control or IT). With the Industrial IoT, factory floors see the emergence of a new generation of network technology supporting the transformation toward unified IP networks from edge to edge. These time sensitive networks (TSN) now provide more flexible network topologies, support higher bandwidth and time aware communications in a reliable context.
