NXP’s SN110 eSIM family combines eSIM, NFC and a secure element to enable a highly integrated monolithic eSIM solution.
NXP® Semiconductors has announced that its SN110 convergence eSIM solution powers the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10T smartphone. The SN110 family is a highly integrated convergence eSIM solution, with near-field communications (NFC) and embedded secure element to enable advanced functionality, such as secure mobile transit, payment and smart access, in addition to cellular connectivity through GSMA-accredited consumer eSIM. With an ultra-small form factor that consumes minimal power, the monolithic solution makes it easier for device manufacturers like Xiaomi to bring consumers remote SIM provisioning and over-the-air updates with multiple mobile network operator (MNO) subscriptions available on the same device.
Convergence eSIM solutions offer a number of benefits over traditional SIM cards, including the ability for consumers to utilize multiple profiles on a single device, rather than carrying multiple devices or switching SIM cards for international travel. It also enables device manufacturers to scale more easily across geographic regions that use different service providers.
The SN110 provides high levels of security, including Common Criteria EAL6+ certifications in accordance with the GSMA CC protection profile, GP (Global Platform) and the GSMA Accreditation Scheme. It has been tested against major MNOs worldwide, helping to ensure interoperability for a frictionless user experience for consumers, OEMs and MNOs.
“Our solution provides the potential for a device to have security credentials to enable multiple connectivity services on demand, ensuring a seamless, secure and intelligent connectivity experience for end users. The SN110 integrates eSIM and secure NFC into a simple solution that combines security and performance, while reducing power consumption and saving cost and space.”
Charles Dachs Senior Vice President and General Manager of Secure Embedded Transactions at NXP
“The eSIM solution supports new ways to combine cellular connectivity with other technologies, including NFC, to enable new use cases and improve the user experience. Whether it’s creating new ways to deliver secure digital services or deploying more secure platform services, an eSIM solution can help improve the consumer’s experience with their smartphone.”
Steven Wang, General Manager of East Asia Region, Xiaomi
The SN110 used in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10T devices also supports the local Japanese contactless protocol, FeliCaTM. This helps to ensure the best user experience for consumers, as well as local MNOs. Support for this protocol alongside eSIM and NFC capabilities helps ease development of a smartphone that can be distributed in multiple geographies.
